Waves of Revival
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.”
Acts 2:17-18
As we drove north from Asheville, I asked the Lord what He was doing there in Northern Indiana. I felt the Lord say, “This is a wave of my Spirit.” I prayed and pondered that for a couple hours as I drove.
When we arrived, we were invited into a pastors meeting where Kyle Martin, founder of Time to Revive, was encouraging local leaders to cooperate with all that God was doing. I sensed excitement, wonder and hunger, mixed with caution, in the local leaders. I briefly encouraged them to open their hearts and let God lead them into what He had for them.
As we left that meeting we went to the lobby where a beautiful painting of a wave immediately caught my attention. Kyle’s cousin, Mindi, had painted a picture of a beautiful blue wave a few nights before during the nightly worship meeting. God was getting my attention. He had sent a wave of His Spirit to Indiana, and we needed to pay attention.
At the end of that first night’s service, Kyle invited me to lead the ministry time and close the service in prayer. Trying to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, I took a few seconds to just take in the moment. I stood on the stage before almost 2000 people, listening for God’s voice.
What I saw in that moment is still riveted in my brain. Not with my physical eyes, but with my spirit, I saw a huge wave of blessing and love that was moving among the people. The wave was way out at sea, and had not yet crashed with it’s greatest impact, but was building in strength. This wave was different than a natural tsunami. This wave was going to leave healing, salvation and restoration in its wake, not destruction.
Throughout Scripture and church history, God has sent waves of His Spirit to move His kingdom forward in the earth. The day of Pentecost in Acts 2 was the first initial mighty wave of the Spirit. The book of acts records multiple more waves of the Spirit as God poured out His love and power upon the growing group of disciples. These waves empowered the believers to walk in more love and more power as they preached the message of salvation through Jesus.
The Reformation was another mighty wave of change and transformation. The Moravian movement and 100 year prayer session was another. The First and Second Great Awakenings were two more mighty waves of revival that hit our American shores. Azusa street in the early 1900’s and the charismatic movement in the 1960’s and 70’s were more waves. God continues to send waves to His church.
By faith, I believe we are about to see another wave of God’s Spirit crash upon our shores. Our hearts are in great need of awakening and empowerment. Our community needs to come back to Jesus and His righteous government. Our nation is being destroyed from the inside out by selfishness and sin. We need a mighty wave of God to come to us again.
I believe what is needed to respond correctly to this coming wave of God’s Spirit is to ask Him for a renewed humility before Almighty God. We need to ask God to restore in us a hunger for Him and His presence. We need to look in the mirror and not at our neighbor for where revival needs to begin. We need to admit where we are, and come clean with God and with ourselves. We need to ask God for His forgiveness, cleansing and refreshing rains.
Please pray with me at this time for God to send a fresh wave of His Spirit to Western NC. Let’s humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, and He will lift us at the proper time. I can sense that the wave is real, and God desires to send it to our shores.
Come, Lord Jesus. We need you. We long for You. Have Your way among us! Send a mighty wave of Your Spirit to our shores!
